Rochester, NY, 07/19/10 — The Rochester Ravens couldn’t build on their recently made history this past weekend, as the team lost at both Quebec City and Laval to end their season. The Ravens lost to the Quebec City Amiral 1-0 on Friday night to end their two game winning streak and then they lost 3-1 at Laval on Saturday afternoon to end the season.
Against Quebec City, the Ravens played a tough game for all 90 minutes but a goal by Genevieve Marcotte in the 65th minute for the Amiral proved to be the difference. Against Laval, the Ravens gave up two goals in the first 21 minutes and that was all that the Comets needed. They added another goal in the 66th minute to widen the cushion and Jacquie Lacek scored for the Ravens on a penalty kick in the 80th minute.
“This past weekend was a tough way to end the season but I am proud of our team this year,” said Coach Mark Howlett. “We are successfully building on the positives and improving every time we step out onto the field. Our organization is excited for next year after seeing the improvement the team made this year.”
Rochester trailed Quebec City in shots, 17-8, and corner kicks, 7-4. Brooke Barbuto led the Ravens with three shots and Jessica Shufelt had two, while Andreanne Gagne led Quebec City with six shots. Jessica Sexton and Jessica Dulski split time in goal for the Ravens, with each playing 45 minutes. The Amiral’s goal came against Jessica Dulski in the second half.
The Ravens were facing a Quebec City team that came into the game with a 5-3-2 record and looking to build on a 1-0 win against Toronto earlier in the week. The Ravens played against the Amiral two times this season, going 0-2-0. In the first meeting between the two teams, the Ravens conceded a penalty kick goal to Andreanne Gagne in the 10th minute that ended up winning the game for the Amiral.
On Saturday, Rochester lost the shots battle to Laval, 8-4, but ended up having more shots in the second half, 4-3. Laval also held the advantage in corner kicks, 4-2. The game turned out to be a fierce battle as the Ravens had 16 fouls and Laval had 12 fouls. Furthermore, Shaylyn Lawrence (37th minute) and Lindsay Tegas both received yellow cards (66th minute). Jacquie Lacek and Lindsay Tegas combined to lead the team in shots with two each.
The Ravens were facing a Laval team that came into the game with a 5-3-3 record and looking to build on a 1-1 tie at Ottawa a few days earlier. The Ravens played against the Comets two times this season, going 0-2-0. In the first meeting between the two teams, the Ravens allowed three goals, with them occurring in the 30th, 48th, and 90th minutes.
Rochester finished in fifth place in their division with seven points and a 2-9-1 record. Leading the way for the Ravens was Eileen Coyle, who scored two goals for the Ravens this season and assisted on one goal. Brooke Barbuto led the team in shots with 24, while Jessica Shufelt was close behind with 22 shots.
